Kiefer Sutherland becomes U.S. President

Designated Survivor is an American political drama series by David Guggenheim.

Originally airing only two seasons on ABC in 2016 and 2017, the third season aired exclusively on Netflix in 2019.

Designated Survivor’s story begins on the eve of the U.S. President’s annual State of the Union state speech held at the Capitol Building.

All members of the presidency attended the event, including the U.S. President, U.S. Vice President, congressmen, and cabinet members.

However, that’s not the case with Tom Kirkman ( Kiefer Sutherland), U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He was appointed as designated survivor who will take the position of U.S. President in the event of something that kills the entire presidential ranks.

During the State of the Union, Tom is secured in a secret place, relaxing watching the president’s speech.

Suddenly there was a massive explosion at the State of the Union event that killed the US President and everyone in the line of presidential succession.

As a designated survivor, Tom was soon sworn in to become U.S. President. Overnight, Tom’s life changed so drastically.

The explosion at state of the union is just the beginning of a variety of other problems tom has to face.

While trying to do state duties and adjust to the world of U.S. politics full of surprises, Tom must also maintain the wholeness of his family.

Not to mention the U.S. public who underestimated his ability to lead.

Fortunately he is not alone, Tom is helped by his three confidants, Aaron Shore (Adan Canto), Emily Rhodes (Italia Ricci), and Seth Wright (Kal Penn).

On the other hand, Tom is also revealing the fact behind the State of the Union explosion, that it turns out that there are people who deliberately want to trap him.
